About

The Scottish artist Stephen Najda crosses many boundaries. Stylistically placed between Matisse and Picasso, the oil paintings of Stephen Najda feature expressionistic figures representing the primitive self. A common thread runs through all his artwork - a bold vision of vivid colour, delineating line and fluid pint to produce a powerful narrative.

The art of Stephen Najda…

Stephen Najda explores the human form in all its complexity and from a multitude of perspectives that range from the classical figure to abstraction by creating a juxtaposition of vivid color, delineating line, intriguing forms, and fluid brush strokes. Many of Najda’s paintings, at first, appear impenetrable, but ambiguity is the essence of his work; a voyage of discovery and an exploration of the primitive-self while exploring the boundaries between imagination and the subconscious, to produce an abstraction of thought. Najda calls this elemental art ‘quantism’.

Najda’s work leads the viewer into a mysterious, sparse landscape with ambiguous human forms; creating tension that provokes a wide range of humanistic, scientific, philosophical, and intellectual questions which Najda describes as ‘painting the unknown.’

Najda is often described as ‘Renaissance Man’, a polymath of the sciences, literature, and the arts. Najda’s exploration of visual creative expression encompasses mediums that span from painting and drawing to photography, sculpture, and video.
